About these figures. Indicative RORO ocean freight in U.S. dollars for self-propelled machines under 40 tonnes, including the carrier’s terminal, fuel and documentation charges; not a quote. Your machine is priced on its real measurements and weight. Trucking to the port, export papers, insurance, Dominican port charges, duties and ITBIS are extra. The only binding price is the written quote from a CargoMax office.

How it is priced

Three numbers decide the freight.

  1. Volume

    Length × width × height

In cubic metres, with the bucket on the ground and the boom or arm folded. Each centimetre of height is paid.

  2. Weight

    Tonnes

If the machine weighs more tonnes than it measures cubic metres, it pays by weight. Over 40 tonnes, a different rate applies.

  3. Condition

    Runs or not

A machine that drives aboard is the cheapest. One that does not run travels on a Mafi trailer or a flat rack.

Questions

Machinery to the DR, answered.

How much does it cost to ship an excavator to the Dominican Republic?

By RORO from Port Everglades, Florida, to Santo Domingo, a mid-size excavator of about 60 cubic metres pays about USD 3,750 in ocean freight with the carrier charges included. A backhoe loader is about USD 3,250 and a skid steer about USD 1,500. Trucking to the port and Dominican duties are extra.

How is machinery priced?

By W/M: the volume in cubic metres (length × width × height) or the weight in tonnes, whichever is higher. Machines over 40 tonnes have their own rate. Measure with the bucket down and the boom or arm stowed.

My machine does not run. Can it still go RORO?

Yes, on a Mafi trailer that is towed aboard, at an extra charge. Very large or non-running units can also travel on a flat rack from Montreal or Halifax, lifted by crane.

I bought the machine at an auction. Can you collect it?

Yes. We collect at auction yards in Canada and the United States, including Ritchie Bros., file the export papers and book the vessel to Santo Domingo.

Can I ship machinery from Canada to the Dominican Republic?

Yes. It is trucked to Newark or Baltimore for RORO, or loaded on a flat rack at the Port of Montreal or Halifax. We quote both and tell you which costs less.

What taxes does machinery pay in the Dominican Republic?

Duties depend on the tariff line of the machine, plus 18% ITBIS on the CIF value. Some equipment for agriculture, construction or industry qualifies for reduced rates; our agent in Santo Domingo checks your machine before you ship.
