Single Central American Declaration (DUCA)
The Central American Single Declaration (DUCA) unites the three main customs declarations that protect trading between Central American countries.

The DUCA integrates the Central American Single Customs Form (FAUCA), which is used to con-duct intra-regional trade of originating merchandise. Commonly known as DUT, the Declaration for International Land Customs Transit, is used for the international land transit of goods in Central America. Finally, the Goods Declaration, which is called DUA or DM, is used for trade with specif-ic countries outside the region.

The DUCA has three modalities:

The DUCA-F must be used to trade merchandise that originated in Central American.
The DUCA-D must be used for the import or export of goods with countries outside Central Ameri-ca.
The DUCA-T must be used for the transfer of goods under the international land transit regime.

The application of the DUCA entered into force in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama as of May 7, 2019.

This is a trade facilitation measure, which is the result of the efforts of the region’s customs ser-vices, as well as the Council of Ministers of Economic Integration. It constitutes a firm step to-wards strengthening Central American economic integration.

SHIPPING SERVICES TO HONDURAS

RO/RO SHIPPING SERVICES TO HONDURAS

Ro/Ro (Roll on/Roll off) shipping service to Honduras:

For transporting automobiles, cars, vehicles, buses, ambulances, fire trucks, tractor trucks, all other types of trucks, trailers, machinery, and much more, this is the most secure way of shipping via ocean transportation. Why? Because RO/RO carrier vessels have special inclines (ramps) constructed to enable vehicles to be loaded on and off the vessel using the vehicle’s own power. This is the safest, easiest, and most convenient way to transport drivable vehicles across continents.

How much does it cost to send a vehicle to Honduras?

Between USD 350 and USD 1500 depending on the type, size, weight, and location of the vehicle being shipped. Cargomax handles small automobiles, high and heavy equipment such as trucks, truck and trailer combinations, bulldozers, excavators, mining equipment, and everything in between.

This service is provided on regular call from the US East Coast and on inducement from other origins.

How much does it cost to send cargo using Lo/Lo (lift on/lift off) services?

LoLo service can be tricky because everything is determined by the size of the cargo and the lifting points. The weight of the cargo must be well distributed when lifting onto and off the vessel.

For this service, there are many factors to consider, although the price will likely be 3000.00 or more, depending on the different factors involved.

OOG (OUT OF GAUGE CARGO) SHIPPING SERVICES TO HONDURAS

How much it cost to ship cargo with OOG service to Honduras?

Like Lo/Lo, this service is determined by the size of cargo, dimensions, and lifting points. The weight of the cargo must be well distributed, but instead of being lifted on/off the vessel, the cargo will be secured on a 20’, 40’, or 45’ Flat Rack container or 60’ 90’ Mafi equipment. Cargo will be secured by blocking and bracing with straps and chains. The cost of this service could be 3000.00 or more.

ABOUT HONDURAS

Honduras is a small country in Central America bordered by Guatemala in the north, El Salvador in the west, and Nicaragua in the south. However, despite these many borders, Honduras has both Pacific coastline and Carribean coastline. A central part of the Mayan empire, the first recorded contact between Europeans and Mayans occurred in 1502 when Christopher Columbus landed on the Bay Islands off the Honduran coast. The Republic of Honduras gained independence from Spain in 1821. The primary language of Honduras is Spanish, and 90% of the local population is Mestizo, descended from both European and indigenous ancestry.

The Honduran economy is primarily based in small agriculture, with some small manufacturing and a growing textiles industry. Honduras is rich in natural resources, however, including timber, gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, iron ore, coal, and hydropower. The main agricultural industries are bananas, sugar cane, coffee, citrus, beef, and shrimp. Primary exports include apparel, coffee, shrimp, auto parts, cigars, bananas, gold, palm oil, fruit, lobster, lumber. Because of its dependence on agriculture, this small country is particularly vulnerable to natural disasters such as hurricanes. In many ways, the country is still recovering from the total destruction of 1998’s Hurricane Mitch. But of all the Central American countries, Honduras has managed to carry an impressive economic growth rate for several years. Their primary trade partners are the U.S., Germany, Belgium, Mexico, China, and their Central American neighbors.

Despite this growth rate, Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Central America, with over 60% of its population living below the poverty line. Security for foreigners in the country remains a concern for many companies. However, thanks to investment from foreign initiatives and a nationwide push to level inequality and reduce poverty, violent crime numbers are dropping.

INTERNATIONAL SEAPORTS IN HONDURAS

Honduras has 6 ports located on both coasts: Puerto Coxen Hole, Puerto de La Ceiba, Puerto Castilla, Puerto Cortes, Puerto de San Lorenzo, and Puerto Tela.

Most of these seaports are small and not suited for international shipping. Puerto Cortes is the only deep-water port in Central America and is the main hub for international shipping and containers. However, Puerto Castilla and Puerto de San Lorenzo both have storage capacity. San Lorenzo is also the only Pacific-facing port in the country.

Puerto Cortes

Located on the Northern Caribbean coast of the country, Puerto Cortes is the largest seaport in Central America and the 36th largest in the world. Because it is close to US ports in the Gulf, Puerto Cortes is part of the US Container Security Initiative.

Puerto Castilla

This port is located on the south side of the peninsula that shelters Trujillo Bar. It was founded as a shipping site for United Fruit at the turn of the century, and the small village port is now used primarily as a container terminal for Dole Fruit. There is also a small Honduran naval base.

Puerto de San Lorenzo

Located on Laguna de San Lorenzo and sometimes referred to as Puerto de Henecan, San Lorenzo is the only Pacific-facing port in Honduras. It can accommodate limited containers, and has road only access.

INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS IN HONDURAS

International Cargo airports in Honduras

There are many airports in Honduras, but only four that can accommodate international travel and cargo. Of these, Toncontin and Ramon Villeda Morales are the biggest, and handle the most shipping to and from the US and Canada.

Golosón International Airport

Located on the westside of La Ceiba, the third largest city in Honduras, Goloson is served by 4 domestic Honduran airlines and one international line, Cayman Airways.

Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport

Located on the island of Roatan, about 30 miles off the cost of Honduras, the international airport of Coxen Hole is served by three domestic Honduran airlines and 11 international airlines.

Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport

Also known as La Mesa International, Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport is located 7 miles south of San Pedro Sula, and is the largest, busiest airport in Honduras. It handles over 150 international and domestic airlines.

Toncontín International Airport

Located 6 miles south of the capital city of Honduras, Tegucigalpa, Toncontin International Airport is notorious for being a dangerous runway approach. However, improvements to the facility have increased safety, and the airport is the second busiest in Honduras, and served by 9 domestic and international airlines.
