Shipping a Car to the Dominican Republic
RORO and container car shipping from the USA & Canada to Santo Domingo (Río Haina), Puerto Plata and Caucedo — with a clear price and honest transit times.
How much does it cost to ship a car to the Dominican Republic?
The cost depends mainly on how you ship (RORO or container), where the car starts, and the vehicle size. As a guide:
| Method | Typical market range* | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| RORO (car rolls on and off the vessel) | from about US$1,000 – $2,500 | Most economical for a single running vehicle |
| Sole-use container (20′ or 40′) | from about US$2,500 | Best protection; a 40′ often fits 2 cars, lowering the per-car cost |
*These figures are approximate market ranges shown for general reference only — they are not official Cargomax prices and not a quote, and they can vary significantly depending on the vehicle, origin port, destination, carrier and season. For your real price, request a free same-day quote.
RORO or container — which should you choose?
RORO (roll-on/roll-off) is usually the cheapest way to ship one running car: it drives onto the vessel and off at destination. A sole-use container costs more but fully encloses the vehicle and lets you ship parts or belongings with it — and a 40′ container can often carry two cars. Non-running vehicles ship in a container.
Where your car arrives in the Dominican Republic
We ship to the country’s main vehicle ports:
- Río Haina / Santo Domingo — the main port for vehicles on the south coast.
- Puerto Plata — convenient for the north coast and Cibao region.
- Caucedo (DP World) — for containerized vehicles near Santo Domingo.
Delivering to Punta Cana, Santiago or elsewhere? We arrange inland delivery from the port of arrival.
What you need to ship your car
To export your vehicle we generally need the original title / proof of ownership, a bill of sale, and a valid photo ID or passport. The vehicle must be paid off (no lien). Dominican customs charges import duties based on the vehicle’s value and age — our team walks you through the documents and the import process so there are no surprises.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to ship a car to the Dominican Republic?
It depends on the method and origin. RORO for one running car typically runs from about US$1,000–$2,500 from the USA/Canada; a sole-use container costs more but protects the vehicle and can carry two cars. These are market ranges — contact us for your exact quote.
How long does it take?
Ocean transit is typically about 1–2 weeks from the US East Coast to Río Haina, plus pickup and customs. We give you the exact schedule with your quote.
RORO or container — which is cheaper?
RORO is usually cheapest for a single running vehicle. A container costs more but fully encloses the car, lets you ship belongings, and can fit two cars in a 40′.
Can I ship a non-running car?
Yes — non-running vehicles ship inside a container rather than by RORO. Let us know the condition and we’ll advise the best option.
What documents do I need?
Generally the original title / proof of ownership, a bill of sale, and a valid photo ID or passport. The vehicle must be paid off. We guide you through Dominican customs.
Do you deliver to Punta Cana or Santiago?
Yes — we arrange inland delivery from Río Haina or Puerto Plata to Punta Cana, Santiago and across the country.
