INTERNATIONAL SEAPORTS IN
NICARAGUA

International Seaports in Nicaragua:

Nicaragua has eight ports located on both coasts, however, only six are big enough to qualify as seaports. On the Pacific side are Corinto, Sandino, and San Juan del Sur. On the Caribbean side, you’ll find Puerto Cabezas, El Buff, and Bluefields.

Puerto Corinto:

Located on the Pacific side of Nicaragua, Puerto Corinto is the largest, busiest seaport in Nicaragua. It is the only Pacific port for import and export shipments, the only Nicaraguan container port, and has a railroad terminus. The container terminal can handle bulk, liquid, and large shipments like cars.

Puerto Sandino:

This small surfing town has remained a major port because of its crude oil supply line. It is connected to the capital city of Managua by highway, and is roughly 70km away. Cargo at Sandino is unloaded using barges, and there is a berth for solid cargo and one for liquid cargo.

Bluefields:

The capital of the South Caribbean Autonomous Zone, Bluefields is the primary Caribbean-side port, exporting hardwood and seafood like shrimp and lobster. The small city only recently was connected to the west coast with a highway and transportation is very limited.

Puerto El Buff:

Located in Bluefields Bay, El Buff has very limited cargo capacity, and primarily functions as a Caribbean base for commercial fishing vessels.
